Sexual Harassment in the Workplace | Shegerian & Associates Can Help You

Sexual harassment in the workplace is one of the most common forms of employment-related discrimination. Both men and women can fall victim to illegal treatment. It can occur in the form of verbal and physical misconduct. An employer can be found guilty of violating the Civil Rights Act if they condone unlawful behavior or fail to correct ongoing mistreatment.

Concord Police Department Lawsuit

Wendy Schwartzenberger, an employee at the department, has initiated a suit based on sexual harassment in the workplace. The plaintiff alleges that inappropriate passes were made by the highest ranking female officer. The complaint states that the officer had physically touched her and made sexual comments to her from 2004 to 2009. For instance, Schwartzenberger’s sexual orientation was commented on, as well as her relationship with her female partner.

Concord’s city attorney has stated that the complaint is false and that the officer will be defended, along with the city. This particular suit is the 5th of its kind against the Concord Police Department within the last four years. Settlements have ranged from $47K to $750K.
