Octavio Velarde is an esteemed Associate Attorney at Shegerian & Associates. With his upbringing and education in Southern California, along with his fluent proficiency in Spanish, Octavio brings a unique perspective to his legal practice. As a proud gay Latino hailing from the small border town of Calexico, California, he possesses a firsthand understanding of the multitude of challenges faced by clients grappling with exorbitant housing costs and fighting for equitable treatment in the workplace.

Over the course of more than a decade, Octavio dedicated his efforts to working with labor unions. During this time, he closely collaborated with workers and put forth immense efforts towards empowering union members to advocate for their own rights through community engagement and worksite organizing. Octavio’s invaluable experience instilled in him a deep appreciation for the significance of advocacy, an understanding that he consistently employs to effectively empower his clients.

Prior to joining Shegerian & Associates, Octavio contributed his skills to a plaintiff-side firm, specializing in employment class actions. Additionally, he gained noteworthy experience at a union-side labor firm, where he ardently fought to safeguard the well-being of grocery and slaughterhouse workers amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Octavio’s unwavering dedication to social justice and economic issues is reflected in his chosen areas of legal practice.
