Tanya Smith

Tanya Smith is an Associate Attorney at Shegerian & Associates, where she relishes discovery and arguing motions on behalf of employees and whistleblowers.

Tanya earned her J.D. from Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, where she received the Stauffer Charitable Trust Award for excellence in legal writing, During her summers, she interned as a summer law clerk for the Civil Rights Department (then the Department of Fair Employment and Housing), the California Indian Legal Services, and as a summer legal extern for the honorable Lawrence K. Karlton in the Eastern District of California.

Tanya has tried cases before a jury and single judges on behalf of whistleblowers and discriminated employees. She has experience representing employees and their unions in state and federal court, before the State Personnel Board, before the Public Employment Relations Board, before labor arbitrators, and before the Department of Human Resources’ Statutory Appeals Board.

In addition to her legal experience, Tanya holds a teaching credential and previously taught high school students before passing the bar. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and reading.
